Chokes and field coil questions for Philco models 65 and 62 (1929)

Hi all.I am going to be restoring two huge Philco model 65 (1929)(45 output tubes)....and a model 62 (71A output tubes .../chassis only)Both are almost identical....Anyways....I have to use chokes and/or resistors to replace the 3200 ohm field coils (with permanent magnet speakers) at least for now.....so... should I use a 3200 ohm power resistor or would a 1000 ohm be enough.... .Also if I were to use a choke what size henry and current handling capacity (milliamps) would be suitable..........and the same goes for the 2 big chokes in the power supply....if 1 or both (hope not) are open....what size resistor (ohms) or replacement chokes would be suitable to replace them (current and henry, ohms if resistor....because it does not say anything on the schematic ....

Hi Chris, if your field coils are in good condition and the speaker cone is shot. I have in the past used a dremel and cut the field coil loose at the rivets from the speaker basket and mounted it up under the cabinet on floor models. If you cut the rivets it leaves 4 nice holes to mount the coil. Just a thought. Good luck, George T.

Both radios came without speakers unfortunately....but I think they'll sound better maybe anyways with nice alnico permanent magnet speakers....and I am going to use a big speaker for the model 62 (

Hi Chris, it would be best to use a choke and don't forget the speaker transformer that normally mounts to the speaker and connects to the two speaker lugs. George T.

Yes I have 8000 ohm Centre tap output transformer I can use...I think that will be okay or I'll order some

Looking at the schematic, the field coil is not being used as a filter choke. The voltage going though it just makes it an electro magnet. Looks like the radio would play without the coil at all.

Did not notice the plate feed. Never mind last post. A choke would be best to use here.
