In general, if the padder trims the antenna, adjust it first at the high end of the band for maximum signal. If it is not located at that point, adjust it at the high end of the band after tuning the coil at the low end, and adjust the padder for correct linearity of the tuning across the dial. The coil adjusts at the bottom of the band, and the trimmer that is across the oscillator section of the tuning condensor is adjusted at the top of the band as a last step to get the signal right on the marks. (the generalized aproach that Hallicrafters uses for a number of their recievers).
It may take a few times to get the radio to tune right, but each time you go through the steps you should see the variance between what it was- to what it should be; get closer each time.
: Hi,
: I have a receiver which has 3 adjustments for the oscillator tracking: An adjustable coil (slug), a series padder cap and a shunt trimmer cap across the tuning gang section.
: I am familiar with "normal" coil/trimmer alignment, but am confused as to the alignment procedure for the coil and padder (which to me seem to have a similar? function), I assume the coil is always aligned at the low end, the padder in the centre and the trimmer (of course) at the top end. Is this always the case? I have been told this 3 point alignment may have the padder adjusted at low end, and the coil mid band.
: Any comments please.
