Dial Cord Diagram for Zenith 5808 Chassis

Need a dial cord diagram for a Zenith Model 8S463 with a 5808 chassis. The info I need is primarily the way the flywheel pulley and the drive pulley are connected...there are no holes or slots for a spring...Was this a belt driven model?

Thanks.

Hi Michael,
I have an 8S463 with the 5808 in it for sale. I just advertised it on 5-12-00. This is the only old radio I have and I do not make repairs but I can look at the chassis and describe parts for you if that would help. The 8S463 is in excellant condition overall and works.
If you know of anyone interested I can be e-mail at:

Hope I can help, Bill Weber

:Michael: I am also restoring a Zenith with the 5808 chassis. I have been asking other collectors, etc.. It appears that a regular dial cord works the tuner pulley and wraps around the tuning knob shaft and back up to the pulley and attaches with a spring. The other pulley that is on the inside of the chassis and just attaches to the chassis wall is connected to the flywheel pulley with a belt. Several restorers say they have used O ring pieces superglued together to replace this. I bought a package of vacuum cleaner belts about the right size and I am going to split them lengthwise and then cut to fit and glue. From what I can tell, all this belt system does is hook the tuning mechanism up to the flywheel so that when you give the tuning knob a spin, it will keep going and smoothly go around the dial without having to keep twisting to get to the other side of the dial. It is almost like a motorized tuner. I would guess any kind of strong rubberized substance would work. I have seen dial belt kits - just belt material and superglue. Hope this helps. Lyonal

What's a 5808? If it's a TransOceanic, I have one in the shop, and the original SAMS is with it, showing the method. If it's anything else, ... lots o' luck
