In need of a volume control for phillco 60b 0.35meg also need 1L6 for zenith trans oceantic

Dan,

The control may just need cleaning with contact cleaner if it is noisy. Or perhaps take it apart and clean it and lube slightly with dielectric compound. If it must be replaced, a .5 meg (500K) control probably would be ok to use.

The 1L6 is getting rare and expensive. It still can be had from most major tube houses, usually you need to call first for availibility and price.
If the filament opened on the last one, make sure that the circuits in the Transoceanic are functioning with correct voltages first. The power supply may need a dropping resistor and many heater/cathode resistors can drift from the original values with age.
A more common 1R5 can be substituted for a 1L6 albeit with poorer high frequency operation. It should work fine for the AM broadcast band reception.

Also an adapter can be had to use a loctal 1LA6 tube in place of the 1L6. However, there must be room enough for the adapter and the tube height and width wise. Seems I read that the combination was approximately 1.5 inches tall???

:Thank you Walter and Clifton for your help I will try your suggestions for my 60b @ zenith transoceanic Dan
