Telefunken Caprice help needed
11/27/2001 6:56:01 AMBrad
I have a Telefunken Caprice model 5451W. Right now the radio only hums, and I would like to get it working. First, does anybody have a schematic, or know where I can find one for this radio?
All of the tubes light up, but I only get a moderate hum out of the speaker. The voulme level of the hum does not vary with the volume control. The output transformer also gets hot. This leads me to believe that the problem lies in the output stage, possibly the transformer. I've already checked the 2 section electrolytic, and it doesn't show leakage. There is another black cylander next to the power transformer, which I suspect is another capacitor. I can't see the markings on this item, and it hasn't been checked yet. Does anyone have any advice on how to tackle this problem.

Thanks,
Brad

Hi there
don't power the Radio any longer.
First replace the coupling capacitors in the entire AF-amplifier.
(EAB_C_80 and EL84)
The final stage may have wrong bias due to a leaky coupling-cap.
The black cylinder near the transformer is the full-wave
rectifier. (AEG Rundfunkgleichrichter)

It may be neccessary to replace every paper cap with a modern
polyester cap. It's the safest way to save the tubes...
Thr hot output transformer also indicates too high anode current.
