Dave,
Since Sams 395-11 also includes the HFP phono, I believe that it may also use the same changer, which is a RP205D2

My SHF-7 has RP-205 stamped on it...

Warren,
What problems other than dried out rubber might I find? I'll be working on an SHF-6 soon.
I have the service data for the changer from the Most Often Needed 1957 and the schematic for the amplifier from the 1958 Most Often Needed. From the Beitman Site mentioned elsewhere in this forum. I can't tell from the schematic how many paper capacitors are actually in that set because some could be ceramic. I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks,

Dave

The turntable is easy to work on. Clean up all the old grease and dried oil. Use very little new grease on the platter bearings and axle. Go very light on oil. The amplifier is fairly basic with a good push pull audio output. The cartridge you can test after you get the amplifier working. The needle should be replaced. Don’t know how many hours are on it. The needle can play stereo records in mono of course. When working correctly these are great phonographs.

Warren,
I usually just send the pulleys and idler in to be rebuilt and changers usually work fine. What makes this changer so special? If the needle needs to be replaced I might just change the entire cartridge. I might also replace the motor mounts.
I have had this turntable before in a smaller tabletop unit. It also had a ceramic cartridge in it. I don't remember doing much to it and it worked fine. Doesn't SHF stand for Stereo HiFi? I see a switch in the schematic for stereo and monaural but the cartridge is Monaural. What was that used for? I also like the sound of two 6V6s in push pull. This was used in a lot of car radios too.

Thanks,

Dave

This unit has one audio amplifier. I think the switch is for a stereo tape deck input to tie both channels together. Makes a mono playback.
