need a little help in checking IF xmfrs on a Zenith 5g500

Hi, I'm finally getting around to working on this radio I got of epray last summer. Before I spend a lot of time and effort in working on it I want to make sure the IFs are good. I was able to read the 1st if both pri and sec and it checks good. I was able to read the pri on the second but I'm kinda lost as to where to check the secondary or maybe I did and its open..dunno..where exactly do I check the secondary? thanks, Alan

Well the 1st and 2nd IF's both primary and secondary should be 21 ohms. So when you say they are checking out ok are you checking in circuit or out?

Checking in circuit and yes they were right on the money as far as correct value..

This is only checking the coil continuity.
The 2nd IF secondary has a 47 kilo-ohm resister in series with its lug.
This meter check isn't testing the capacitors or tunability/stability of the IF xformers. That would be determined by actually aligning and playing the radio.

All I want to do right now is check for continuity, I'm a ways from putting power on this old radio. I'm just trying to determine if its worth restoring. If I can determine if the 2nd if is not open I'll probably proceed. Alot of wires have to be replaced as the rubber is gone, along with all the caps and possibly more..Its all a challenge to bring one back to life, but much fun...thanks, Alan
