phono plug use with Preset buttons - CGE KL60/RCA A24
2/19/2012 1:08:42 PMBrian
I have a Canadian GE KL60/RCA A24 wihich is an AC radio with pre-set buttons and a small three-prong phono plug on the rear of the chassis. There is a shielded wire from the phono plug on the chassis up to the bank of preset buttons which looks like another phono plug on the preset component. Is this a standard arrangement? Also, to use manual tuning must all presets be unselected?

It is labelled as a switch and cable socket. Can someone explain how it works in conjunction with the phono socket?

Have had similar model. The push button bank has one phonograph button. This bypasses the radio, and puts the phono input to the AF section. This makes the radio just an amplifier for a phonograph. The other push button are all tunable to whatever station you want to select. With all buttons out the radio tuner is now manual.

Warren, does your radio have a cable from the phono pushbutton down to the socket on the back of the chassis? The socket is labelled as a switch/cable on the schematic, don't understand its function.

the set that I had did have the same setup. The socket on the back of the chassis is where you would connect the phonograph. ( the wires from the tone arm ) The wires from this socket ran up to the push button switch. When you push the button the radio was disconnected from its audio amp. The phonograph now is connected to the amplifier. This bypasses the radio, and is now just an amplifier for the phonograph.
