Replacing Old 2 Prong AC Plug With New
2/2/2012 9:59:49 AMBrianC
When using a newer style 'keyed' style AC plug for a radio replacement...Does the wide blade get the chassis 'ground' side or the circuit 'hot' side? Also, would a 3 prong cord/plug be adaptable to these old ac/dc sets with the 'hot' chassis?

The wide pin is the common side of a polarized line cord. This would be the switched side going to chassis ground on a hot chassis. Do not use a three pin cord with earth ground.

Got it...Thanks Warren!

I would recommend changing their cord wiring to this:

It will make the radio chassis a tad safer by rewiring the switch so the "hot" side of the line is switched and connecting the polarized plug this way.

That is an excellent and well written guide for adding a new cord, but ... you may want to tie the knot in the cord BEFORE making the soldered connections. :>)
