Crosley 52F - Antenna wiring
1/27/2012 10:11:18 AMScott
In the process of rewiring a Crosley model 52F / chassis 76. I am confused about the wiring between the antenna coil (top of chassis) and the oscillation coils (underneath chassis). The pics attached show a red wire coming off the primary of the antenna coil and then routing to the center of the oscillation coil form and then back out of the coil form and soldered to the outside of chassis. This red wire feels like it is not connected inside the oscillation coil form but not sure as I can’t really get a view of it without removing the coil.
Anyone familiar with this issue or can set me straight?

Seems that red wire coming in and out of the center of the oscilator is part of the loop antenna.

Have done a couple of similar Crosley radios. If I remember right the wire in question just makes a loop inside the oscillator coil form, then comes back out. I believe this a kind of a gimmick for the short wave band.

Thanks Warren. So after you advised of the gimmick I pulled the twisted/knotted wire out from osc. coil. It must act like a low level capacitor to improve signal? Seems like alot of excess wire hanging out back of chassis. Don't quite know how to justify this unless it is also utilizing loop. In that case the excess wire might lay across loop when assembled?
Either way it probably is not integral to reception would you think?

The two Crosley radios I repaired before both had this wire inside the oscillator coil. I believe this is a few pf of high frequency coupling into the RF front for the SW band. The antenna wires are always sloppy looking. That does not make any difference.
