Sometimes, on a really nasty chassis, I will prime, then paint with "hammered finish" silver paint which is made by Rustoleum. I mask large objects/areas with blue painters tape. The smaller areas, such as rivets etc., I mask by "painting" them with rubber cement, which is easily removed later on.
For sure, there are a myriad of products available that can do the job.............everyone has their favorite.
:It should be noted that I only paint a chassis if it is in horrible shape due to heavy rust / corrosion / discoloration. The majority of the time, Naval Jelly will be sufficient remove grime, light rust and corrosion and will leave the metal looking clean and bright.
