41-611 -capacitor connection
11/25/2011 9:37:31 AMDave F
Hello to all today. I have a 41-611 chassis that was recapped in the past and has a grounding issue while playing. I noticed a .001 mf @ 1000 volt cap that is attached to one of the #42 output tubes but the other end is unattached. Can anyone read the schematic and tell me where this other end connects? I can see it on the schematic but am unable to confirm where it goes. This answer would be greatly appreciated.

Could it be a replacement for cap #84? If so it connects between pin #2 on each 41/42 tube.

Norm,
It looks like #74 it is the original cap, they did not replace it, but it is attached to one of the 42's and the other end is unattached, I can see it on the schematic as the only .0015 @1000

Make that #73 based on what I see on the schmatic.

To what pin is the cap attached? Since there isn't a .001 mf shown around your output tubes someone could added an extra cap?

#73 is a .0015 which is the cap I believe is the issue. It looks like it would go from the same pin on each 41 one to the other and one may have become disconnected. I have run # 122. The schemnatic that you have here does show a cap running from output to output so I think this is the one. Do you agree that there should be a cap from output to output?

Hi Dave

Yes, there should be a cap between output of each tube. Pin #2 on a 41 or 42 tube. Schematic calls for .0015 but .001 mf could be used.

Thanks Norm,

I reattached it but the radio and phono still make a motorboating sound when the volume gets turned up to the high end. I also note that the phono (which is no longer beam of light, it has a crystal rebuilt cart in it, has a raspy sound, too high pitched, and no base, I have seitched needles but no difference, any ideas?

Dave,
I did the same thing to a 42-1008, swapped in a newer changer for the missing "Beam of Light" First removed the special xformer in the connection path, then built a special adapter (read loading) circuit per cartridge mfrs specifications, and bridged the stereo channels.
