attempting to tune a Fada 60 TRF
11/9/2011 9:53:08 PMmartin
After rebuilding the mechanical base(pot metal) of the tuning section ,I am getting to the point of attempting the tuning of a Fada 60 TRF , not having worked on a Trf before not sure how to set up the Dials as, the antenna drum is 0-100 and Tuning drum is 200 - 560. the 560 and 100 being full capacitor. I understand the 0-100 on the antenna tuning but am wondering at the 200-560 on the tuning drum.
Thanks Martin...............

Hi Martin

FADA 60 schematic I found was a superhet:

If you have a three dial TRF set all dials to the same number. For now pick a number, 20 may be a good start. Turn up rheostats so tube filaments are bright, 5 volts.

Slowly vary dials, keeping them all near the same number until you pick up a station. Then adjust dials for max volume. Number may not exactly line up on three dials.

After you have a good signal back off filament voltage to control volume.

Martin

Your dial is in meters rather than KC. I would start with capacitors open about the same amount.

I typed in the wrong model number it should have been Fada R60, there is a wiring diagram out there for it but never have found a schematic for it.I have made up a schematic from the wiring diagram. It has 2 dials with 2 tuning circuits per dial.Yes in Meters sounds right,I guess I don't fully understand how the TRF works fully yet.I haven't hooked power to it yet, just like to be sure of what I am doing.

Check the two audio interstage transformer for continuity. Sometimes they are open.

This radio seems to be between a 3 dial and one dial TRF. Three dial have each tuner separate. Your radio combined two sections.

Thanks Norm , yes interstate transformers are ok , I had this thing completely torn down as had to restore metal base as well as replace all the pot metal with aluminum, I did fire it up this afternoon and was able to get a local but with lots of squeals, so now to get it neutralized and aligned
