I disassembled and scrubbed the metal parts with Wesley's Tire Cleaner and an electric toothbrush. There was little if any rust. I then spray-canned it with clear lacquer. Looks pretty good.
Replaced rear grill cloth with some I bought from grillecloth.com.
Problem: The front grill cloth was missing along with any mounting fixture and I can't figure out how to attach the new cloth.
I'm thinking of making a posterboard ring and attaching the cloth to that, then glue the assembly in place, but that sounds hokey.
Anyone know how it supposed to be done?
Problem: I checked the resistance of the transformer that functions as the voice coil. It measured about 650 ohms. Isn't that a bit high?
The speaker cone has some creased areas which I intend to try ironing out with my clothes iron and a light spray of water.
The center of the cone is about half torn loose from the center fitting that attaches to the flat metal strap that transfers movement from the voice-coil-like thing. It is attached to the paper cone with a ring shaped fitting that has two hollow rivits.
I'm thinking of drilling them out (moto-tool) so I can make tea-bag repairs to the damaged area. I read that tea-bag paper and thinned white glue make for sturdy repairs on cones. The idea is to keep things as original as possible.
Any pointers that may help me avoid "Aw S--t" moments would be greatly appreciated.

Just paint screw heads dark brown. Should match rest of the speaker.
Good thing about AK E-3 it has grill cloth on both sides so cone is hidden. Do the best you can with cone and cloth. Cloth was originally held in place in back by red paper bands. Might be able to use rubber bands then glue?
Speaker should be adjusted so reed is in center of the magnet. Best to try adjusting with a signal. You will hear what happens. Coil in the 600 ohm range would be about right. You are lucky as some are open.

:Additionally, I got some brass screws to attach the front to the back, but the heads need to be brown.
:Anyone know how to treat brass to turn it dark brown?
:Or should I just paint them?
:
The red paper bands were there and I used them for the back.
The trouble I'm having is how to attach the front.
How did the factory do it?
John
The front is one piece. I just glue around the edge with a little on the spokes. Don't use a lot of glue or it will show.
