RCA pot

I have a bad pot on this RCA record player model 7-HF-45 and need to know the value to replace it. Not sure if it is the tone or the volume control but it is the one w/o the tap and has numbers of 137640 and 972121-18 on the pot. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Value is 1.5 meg, out of a schematic in The Fabulous Victrola 45 book by Phil Vourtsis. Worth buying if you are into these players.

Sorry, I reread your post, and it looks like you need the tone control---500K....Brian

Thanks for your help on the pot value. I've never had luck or knew how to access that techpreservation site. That djvu stuff. Not sure how to bring it up.

Sir John. . . . .

WHUT . . . you has never De-Ja-Vooooed . . . well then, plant your feet firmly . . . place both hands on the monitor FIRMLY for support . . . and then . . . BAMMM . . . . you has done been Voo dooed . . . now see the bottom of the page for results.

Strangest thing . . .on your comment of the problem child being the pot W/O the compensation taps on it . . . and there are really TWO of those tap offs, we have the volume control as NOT being the unit of interest.

With the mystery unit being the 1 meg tone control . . . . but on my researching two schematics . . . . answer me this . . . does your unit test open when testing from extreme outer terminal to extreme outer terminal ? But tests 500 meg from center rotor to one end terminal and decreasing to 0 as it is rotated off from center position.

Then a like test of the other terminal to the center rotor reveals the same condition.

If so, all may be well, as if you see the ohmmic referencing on the schematic they are breaking it down as being a 500k A and 500 k B sectionalized unit, not a 1 meg unit.

Soooooo that suggests of a unit which is open circuit /gapped at its very center mid point of rotation, with you NOT really having a problem.

Should be reading as . . .(But tests 500 K from center rotor)
