Simpson 260 Series 6M Missing internal fuse
8/7/2011 2:48:21 PMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
Whoever owned this Simpson VOM before, put aluminum foil under the 1 Amp fuse and then ran the wire directly from that fuse to the selector switch.
Does anyone has some pictures of where the original internal fuse connected. I have the schematic and service data but that doesn't have pictures.
Also the negative D-Cell battery terminal was completely corroded. I think a strip of sheet metal should work to replace it, or is the original part still available somewhere?
The condition of the meter is very good other than that. It works too. But I want to put the fuses in there like they were originally.

Thanks,

Dave

That dude 'soitanly looks oooold . . . . but the fusing just looks to be a SERIES arrangement of TWO fuses in the common negative input jack of the meter front panel.

Examine the plethora of photos provided here on positioning of the LARGE HV BUSSMAN 2 A fuse like we see being used in Fluke digitals and then the small fast acting 1 amp that is being separate and is physically located near the batteries.

This is the manual for the unit and DO use its schematic, since the other stand alone one offered, looks like they made it on a toner starved copier !

Even in using the better SCHEMA copy placed in the manuals copy . . . it further helps to click on and highlight it in blue to afford somewhat better contrast of the schemas line tracings.

ADDENDA:

The second schema hot link transfer got corrupted by a digital bit hit, but I have it corrected on this post . . . plus I am putting an enhanced schema copy below, with the faded traces now being fully darkened . . . . plus . . . . its now being permanently background highlighted in Windows 7 Blue.

Edd,
My meter has no such internal fuse, nor does it have a fuse holder for such a fuse. Someone "fixed" it at some time in the past.
Thanks for the picture showing the fuse.

Hi Dave ,
Maybe this link will give you a better view of the right side of the Simpson 260-6M meter and the larger 2 Amp fuse, when you remove the case ! Lee

Lee,
Yes, I see the fuse in the picture. But it's missing from my 6M. Where do I get a new holder and fuse and what does it screw into. There seems to be no screw hole anywhere in my 6M. Was there a 6M made that didn't have the big fuse and just had the small one?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dave,
Here is a link to a large group of the Simpson meters, that maybe helpful !
The 6 and the 6M "are identical instruments electrically and mechanically, except that the 6M is equipted with a mirrored dial to eliminate parallax" as stated in my Series 6 and 6M operators manual , both show only one, 1 amp fuse ! If you would like I could email the schmetics from my operators manual, if you could give me your email address, mine is lee_mar_petrie@yahoo.com ! Lee

My error, Dave,
I missed the link I was talking about , this appears to be a good over-view ,which includes the line of Simpson 260 meters !
