Emerson DP332 speaker replacement
7/26/2011 9:28:00 AMSteveJB
I just got this radio and it is missing the speaker. The schematic says it is a PM. It does not say what the output trans coil
resistance is.
P
How can/should I go about replacing it? This is a first for me. I usually get them intact and just recap, so my skills are limited here.

This does not seem like a case where I match resistance like older radios as this is not part of the power supply. I do know that I may need to match impeadance to get max power transfer at the output of the speaker. What type speaker should I look for?

That would assuredly be . . . .as was being common for that time frame . . . .a 3.2 / 4 ohm speaker being utilized in that set.

I interpreted this as just being the speaker proper . . . now if the output transformer was missing additionally, that would involve the use of an ~ 2000 ohm plate impedance output transformer to a 4 ohm secondary to additionally to mate up with the speaker.

That's considering that 25AC5 output tubes B+ plate supply appears to be ~ 110 VDC, as being derived from that sets half wave rectifier supply source.

Thanks Edd,

I am missing the transformer as well. Based on what you told me I should be able to use the Radio Daze All American Five transformer with a 2000 ohm primary and a 4/8 ohm secondary. The plate voltage on the 25 AC5GT is 100v.

I should be able to mate that with any 4 or 8 ohm PM speaker. Please confirm that I am correct and I will get parts.

Thanks for your help,

Steve
