How does one get this effect on metal antique equptment?

You can buy paint that will give this effect. Search the internet.

Might also try painting with enamel. Then going over it with lacquer. Practice on a piece of metal. It takes a certain amount of drying between paint.

Eric ..I posted(last month I believe) That you can find the crackel pait kit in some of the large "do it yourself" stores like Lowes, Menards, Home Depot... It comes in a two part paint kit and is used to put a crackel finish on plastic or clay pots to make them look old..You will need to apply a final coat of paint of your choise to get color you want as a third final step... Don't do process on a hot day...it took me three trys to get it where i wanted it to be... ALSO metal or suface MUST BE clean of all dirt/rust
