Is there another number on the ballast? A ballast tube is a resistor and R-159 might be a disignation on your schematic. The Ballast Tube Handbook doesn't list R-159.

: I have a 1948 Motorola 7 Inch Tv which has a Ballast tube Schematically called a R-159. The Ballast was in a perforated Metal can and plugged in to an octal socket. It has been destroyed. Does anyone, anywhere know anything about such an animal?I would like to get this thing goin' again.

Norm,
There is no marking readable on whats left of the old ballast tube. However I can send jpeg's of the Base diagram of the tube and the power supply showing where the resistors are connected. That's about all I have to work with. Thanks for your prompt reply.

Section A is 37 ohms between pins #1 and #6. (protection for rectifier)
Section B is 132 ohms between pins #2 & #6. This one needs to be 15 watts or greater. (filament resistor)
Section C is 200 ohms between pin #3 & #4. (series with B+)
Section D is 111 ohms between pin #6 & #7. This one needs to be 15 watts or greater. (filament resistor)
Hope it's same as your TV?

: You may need a schematic to find ballast resitor values. I found a schematic for Motorola TS-18. The ballast has 4 sections. It may be the same as your TV?
