OK I know this is not a older radio , but I have one that plays and looks great except the volume control will not turn down , all the way down is stays at about 1/4 volume, is the control shot or could it be dirty? it is in a very densly packed area of the set and almost impossible to get access to it and I doubt there are any exact replacements out there could it be fixed with a resistor put in series with it somewhere?
Thanks
Elton

Should clean the control with a non residue contact cleaner. Use the long straw that normally comes with the can. Be careful with some cleaners that can damage the dial cover, or any plastic. Adding resistors won't help anything.

I haven't seen a schamatic, but maybe there is a resistor in the low side of the volume control, to keep the radio from being turned all the way down, that has opened up or changed value. I wasn't a volume control, but a bad solder joint from a control to the ground of a printed circuit board caused a similar problem with something I worked on once.

Sir Elton. . . . .

Seems like that control is not being hard wired into a main PeeCee board propr, but using lead wires, BUT is a bear to tear down and access.

I hope that an injected pressure cleaning into the slot around the terminal lugs access will clear up your problem.

SINCE that IS a VEWY special control, with its additional loudness compensation /tone tap off.

There is no work around on wiring since the rotor is not encountering any resistive lift off from the ground when it reaches the controls ground terminal connection . . . as you see here:
