::Should clean the control with a non residue contact cleaner. Use the long straw that normally comes with the can. Be careful with some cleaners that can damage the dial cover, or any plastic. Adding resistors won't help anything.

:I haven't seen a schamatic, but maybe there is a resistor in the low side of the volume control, to keep the radio from being turned all the way down, that has opened up or changed value. I wasn't a volume control, but a bad solder joint from a control to the ground of a printed circuit board caused a similar problem with something I worked on once.
