HP 212A Pulse Generator
4/27/2011 1:40:26 PMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
I looked through the BAMA website but cannot find the service data there. Does someone know what tubes are in this pulse generator? I took off the back but I cannot get a look at all the tubes. If I decide to replace all the paper and filter capacitors, does anyone have at least the schematic for this "instrument"?

Thanks,

Dave

Google "HP 212A" - and this link is at the top of the list: http://www.hpl.hp.com/hpjournal/pdfs/IssuePDFs/1950-02.pdf There are many other links, too. Google is your friend.

I'm wondering what you plan to use this thing for?

Doug,
I have seen this page but it gives me no information about what tubes are in it at all. Just the special hydrogen thyratron. But no numbers. I have searched the internet with google and there is no other information about this model at all that I can find. There is no service data for it in BAMA either. So what would I use it for? Just learning. But I probably wont have it very long. It has too many "droppings" inside. I don't want to touch that. Plus it's huge. I'll give it to someone and he'll tell me what tubes are in it by looking more closely at it.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave,

My cut and paste didn't work right, but perhaps you will be able to sort out the 'V' numbers from the jumble.

Sir Dave . . . . .

Used to use one of those way back in the days of radar design, both for a variable drive source for the modulator feeding the magnetron transmitter.

And then . . . at a very reduced level and being passed thru SEVERAL stages of shaping / deforming / attenuating circuitry to eventually get the simulation of a feeble return echo, to work on the optimization of image enhancememt circuitry that fed into the final CRT display.

It has too many "droppings" inside.

Initially thinking of "Meeces Pieces" inside on that statement . . . . but certainly it must have been layered sheets opon sheets of Albatross droppings . . . . as you certainly could have seen the silk screened symbolization of all tubes "Vee" numbers and their types.

To Wit:

I additionally placed the 2 schematic parts down BELOW.

Edd,
I couldn't find anything printed in the back and a lot of rat droppings kept falling out of the bottom. So I gave it away. But it was interesting to look at. Thanks for the information.
