zenith dial re-stringing for Zenith 10-S-464
4/12/2011 4:59:06 PMRobert Doran
I have this model Zenith in which a previous owner replaced the belt with dial cord. That broke and I put in a new belt. However the dial cord that goes from the tuning shaft to the large pulley that turns the variable tuning capacitor also broke and needs to be replaced.I am unable to find any re-stringing instructions or a diagram. Can anyone send me one or point me in the right direction? Thanks.

:Surprised no one's chimed in on this. I've restored at least three -464's and they're quite simple to restring/rebelt. The belt kit is available from Radio Daze and as far as the dial cord I use a .030"-.040" and run it from the tun. cond. pulley spring down to the shaft on the stationary pulley mounted on the chassis, 1-1/2 wraps around that shaft and back up to the tun. cond. pulley and attach to the spring again. There is no intricate routing that is involved.

As for belts breaking I've never had one break that I've replaced and I put a bit of tension on mine. If you're using the correct belt material and making an acute angled, even and matching cut at the ends of the belt they should be fine with a dab of super glue and applied pressure for a minute or so. Either put the belt around the tuning/volume shaft housing before you glue it or you'll have to disassemble the front end of the radio to do it.

:Thanks Johnny. What you outlined for the dial stringing sounds simple and would have been my guess also. Not like some of the ham radios I have re-strung!!!!
