re: looking for bad 6L6 tubes

Hello, I have made a couple of ballast tubes with the capacitor and Zener diode arrangement and they work really well, soft start and steady dial light, I reccomend this for any ballast equipped radio, however I was not able to find a 8.2 farad cap small enough to fit inside the orinal tube and the only tube that would be large enough is the metal 6l6, so im on the hunt for some dead ones, would be a crime to molest good tubes, Thanx,
Dale

Hi Dale

Sorry I haven't saved bad octal tubes. I can watch of them in the future.

There are other tubes same size as 6L6. The 5T4 rectifier, 1619 and several others in the 16xx number group are the same size as a metal 6L6.

Ok thanx, it won't matter wich tube used, as longt as the size is the same so that I can stuff that massive cap in there, makes the look more original rather than just solder the cap under the chassis wich wold work equally well.
