Majestic 90 hooked up but problem
4/10/2011 5:11:12 PMElton
Well I hooked up the power supply to the radio, flipped the switch, and I got a hum a bad hum, and monitoring the voltage the 308 supply drops to about 150, and the 144 supply is at 50, checked the field coil and is OK, I also changed out the .5 caps with .47's but heres the thing, the hum and the voltage drop disapaers when I disconnect the .5 from the 144 line, but then no sound at all when the caps are hooked back up to ground they read a dead short??? the caps show no leakage on my vom ...they could be bad but were new out of the package and I don't have anymore .47 could I sub something else just to check ?
Thanks

oops correction when I disconnect the caps from the cathodes of the 27 tubes the hum goes away and the voltage returns to normal, could it be a bad tube?

Don't ya just hate it when that happens? Just goes to show that brand new parts can't be trusted 100% of the time. Doesn't happen too often, but enough times to justify double checking.

Steve,
Right, not often, but has happened to me a couple times. Upon delivery, I always inventory for correct order, and at the same time measure every cap for correct value.
