I'm replacing power cord on Radiola 17. Can I put a polarized plug on?

yes you can use a polarized plug. It does not even matter the side that's common or hot. It is transformer operated anyway.

With a polarized plug, some people prefer to have the set's power switch on the hot leg. That way, the xfmr and the rest of the set isn't energized with the switch off.

www.tubesandmore.com sells a 'larger diameter' cloth covered cord that looks excellent on these early AC radios, and www.sundialwire.com sells attractive bakelite plugs with polarized prongs. They also have an amazing selection of cloth power cords, including twisted pair, though no larger gauge smooth cloth.

Sorry. I was wrong. Sundial Wire does not sell polarized plugs, but has very nice plugs and wire.

However, this eBay seller has replica antique-style plugs with polarized prongs. Polarized prongs are not necessary on a radio of this type, but, if preferred, these plugs will keep the radio looking complete and attractive.

She seems to have many different styles, including white.
