Building a vibrator.....
10/9/2001 12:14:28 AMWasen
Hi!

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this....but I really need help! I have to make a vibrator(like the ones you have in mobile phones). It has to be small, efficient and have few movable parts....so I can't use the technique used in the vibrators in mobile phones. You should be able to use an inductor(I think that's what it's called in English? :-))? I've also heard that you might be able to use a crystal, but I have bo idea how to do this! :-)
I would be REALLY gretafull for any help with this, or if anyone knows where I can find some information on this subject.

Thanks in advance guys! ;-)

Hi Wasen

I emailed you some information Don Black sent me on building a solid state vibrator. Don reads these posts and may have some comments.

Hi Wasen, Norm, I think you're after a vibrator to feel as an alarm, used in mobile phones as a silent call indicator. If that's what you're after I don't have any information about them but perhaps you can find an old, obsolete phone whith one that you can salvage. If it's a power supply vibrator then the information that Norm sent should do the job. Don Black.

Hi there,
a vibrator like that for silent alarm in mobile phones
is an tiny DC-motor with an excentric flywheel
(or something like that).
I tested such a motor with 2V, it needed a rather big
current about 600 to 800mA.

The ecentric weight idea is correct. Just drill a closely matching hole in your weight and epoxy it to the motor's shaft. Probably easiar to salvage one from an old pager though. I bet a pager/cellphone would have some for the asking.

Do you have another email address? Hotmail doesn't accept large files. I'll first try sending several smaller emails.

I just ran across this. Without knowing how much, and what your doing it is hard to guess. Would the very small speaker from a modum work. if you glue a small rod and weight to the part that moves, it would shake, because it is moving the weight. On dairies they put a motor on the feed tank and a round weight, it has a hole drilled off center, and put it on the motor shaft, and you can not believe how much that shakes.
What voltage, how big and how much shacking. I have spent 63 years using thing for every thing, but what they were made for. A member of the antique clock club, had looked 20 years for a Mercury switch. But everything was to big, or would not balance or some other problem. I had some out of a old milking machine controller, and sent 1. He e-mailed back that it was Perfect, and I let him set the price. He sent $35.00. That would cover my gas to go get it, but I made the deal, so no problem. He wanted the second one, so I sent it, to recover some more of my cost, and $35.00 would do it. I never heard from him, and thought it got lost in shipping. I emailed him, and e replied "Yes it got here" and his name. No thank you, kiss my &*$%, or nothing. He was very careful not to tell me what kind of clock. Probly sold it for $100.00. He will never get any thing else.
I do not watch this, so if you think I may be of help, please e-mail me at familypc@peoplepc.com. Idea's are free. Anything I do not have any money tied up in, are free too, if the postage is paid.Even door bell buzzers shake, but sound to big. Car thieves use them to shake the door lock open.
Regards and good luck
