My main concern is if I can run the radio on a negative ground. It appears that I can if the two .5umf (c56 & c61) are electrolytics. They are metal cans which are bolted to the chassis. The marking on the caps are .5mfd 200v so it is unlikely they are electrolytics. Haven't been able to find any thing so far on the caps on the net. Sure wish I could be sure that they are not polarized caps.

Looking at the schematic, the positives on the electrolytics go to the cathode of the 84 tube and the negitive of the 8mf goes to front (up stream) side of filter choke, the negative side of 4mf goes to rear (down stream) side of choke The can on that electrolytic has to be isolated from chassis. ::PLANIGAN; My guess is that the positive ends of the 4 & 8 mf caps are both tied to one terminal. The negative end of the 4 mf is tied to the can/ground. The negative end of the 8 mf is then tied to the other terminal. This then would let the negative end of the 8 mf generate a negatuve voltage for the grid.

::::::Gary blay that last. There is something about that schematic that I cant figure out. On the 4mf the can connects to the down stream side of the choke coil and then to ground (chassis). Since the can (negative) is common to the two caps (8mf & 4mf)the 4mf going to ground would mean the 8mf also goes to ground and that does not compute. I don't know enough to even guess at this one. Looking at the schematic, the positives on the electrolytics go to the cathode of the 84 tube and the negitive of the 8mf goes to front (up stream) side of filter choke, the negative side of 4mf goes to rear (down stream) side of choke The can on that electrolytic has to be isolated from chassis.
