:Your radio does have the Philco " Block " capacitors. These are always bad. Check the Philco Repair Bench and that shows with the part number with what's inside. You can leave the old block in the chassis, and use one terminal as a tie point for the new capacitors.
:
:The "Block" condensers are not electrolytic or paper capacitors. These are the Bakelite ones. (square block) with a hex screw holding it to the chassis.

Assuming good voltage readings, you will have to consider using a signal generator. Richard
:
:Start by making basic voltage readings on the tube pins with attention to the cathode, screen and plate. Rider schematic gives some benchmark readings. Otherwise you are working blind.

You mentioned not hearing much touching top of tubes. The only one which should cause loud noise is 75. If you hear this audio circuits are operating.
Does the oscillator operate? If not check continuity of the oscillator coil. Sometimes they are open in Philco's.
I wouldn't change mmf caps unless known to be bad.

::Ok for the past 2 months I have been working on a Philco model 665.. I have recapped all eltro. caps and paper caps (dam tar)...Tested all coils (pulled out and looked for green rot)...checked all resistors..checked my work twice and I am recieving NO signal...When touching tops of tubes that go to coils I get a slight hum but no where near as loud as it should be.I checked all pots (good).. I have NOT replaced any of the MMF molded caps (the little brown square flat ones with colored dots..) Is it possible thats the littel MMF caps are causing my problem..OR where should I look? What you think? HELP PLEASE.. I am about to pull main transformer and check wires for shorts..should I?
