Parts...

I have inherited several Heathkit testing pieces. Oscilliscope, signal generator, capitance tester, green eye tube...Most of these don't have model numbers. They have tubes inside. Manuals are no longer free...I need info on how to operate these...Way before my time...extremely nice and clean...well taken care of. Scope needs new caps, all sticky and leaking. I know how to use the scope just fine, but the capictance tester, I tried, and can check for leaks, not sure of values on scale...All are grey in color, if that helps date them. They were made by an engineer who built everything...Any help would be appreciated. Plus, I have tried to offer free parts/radios to people a few times. I have some very rare and expensive pieces...I don't mind sharing when I can..... I get no response. Why?
Edd, this does not apply to you...

Cindy:
Google "Heathkit Schematic Diagram Archive".....That should give you a world of free schematics.

Here is a link with free manuals and schematics. Also has some pictures of the equipment. If theses are the gray faced ones, there should be a model number printed small in black on the front.

As for the parts might post some description of what all you have.

:Thanks for the info...I have posted a link to photobucket before...no responses...I gave it away locally to someone who wanted to set up his own shack. I have some of the strangest items you have ever seen...I think one thing is an antique crystal or x-ray piece. Looks like an hour glass, similar, brass top and bottom and mercury coil on bottom...then these little thick round metal pieces with glass rings around them...Crystals? God knows...he was an inventor...Luckily I was able to rid myself of alot of these items...But if you need something, Ask...I just may have it...I am getting more in the spring...

:Hi!Cindy,
First find the model numbers of your heathkit equipment which always seem hard to find until you get use to looking for them on the front panel. Then if you go to "http://www.ebaman.com/" and click on "files area" then click on "home electronics" you will find the heathkit files. There many heathkit manuals there. The site is free to join and free to download from. Downloads can be slow so it requires patience. Manuals can also be uploaded to that site. Also I have many heathkit manuals that I am willing to email copies to those needing them. All that is required is a request here at Nostalgia Air.

Now I feel like a person again...Thanks for the help. If you ever need anything just ask...I may have it...seriously. I will not live long enough to use it all...Now to get some of these radios fixed...
Anyone know anything about an NEC, Nippon Electric Co., made in Poland, model FM-203...AM/FM/PU/, plus 3 SW bands...blue line eye tube, works great..no station pick-up...Looks like IF cans are paper and wax, this true? It just quit working after the woman had it since new...tubes look good, changed a few caps, resistors ok, but darn if I can figure out the circuits...I don't know what some of the parts are. eg: IF cans...it is foreign to me...literally...any ideas? Thanks again.

This must be what your radio looks like.

http://radioattic.com/item_sold.htm?radio=0055044

These European radios are somewhat strange looking in there design. And can be a little complicated at first. This radio should very similar (if not exact) to the Goplana V made in Poland.
As a simple start to repair. Check the B+ from the power supply. Low voltage may mean it needs new filter capacitors. Does the Green tuning eye show any green ?

That's it..same one. The tuning has a long turquoise band. Not the round one like the heathkit..or other radios. Yes it works fine. Barely moves when it tries to pull in a station. I will check voltage in a few days and get back with results...Thanks..appreciate it.

If the tuning indicator is green, it does have some B+ . I would check the tubes first. There is cross reference if your tester does not cover the euro types. Here is a schematic for a Goplana N .. probably at least close enough to see what you are going for. (see tube line up)
Clean all those push button contacts. They get dirty lazy and stick if not used once in awhile.

Thanks Warren. Did clean them. Wondering should I use a tuner cleaner, oil based cleaner? They were grime...I wondered about this, should I use a white grease? Foreign.

use just a non residue contact cleaner. Nothing oil base. Don't put any grease on the contacts. That just makes them attract dirt again. Test the tubes. I would suspect the EBF 89 tube first off.

Thanks Warren, I am on it....if you ever need anything, ask. I don't have all the info, just parts.
