I am restoring a set the has these bumble bee caps , and so far I cannot find anyone who has replacements. any suggestions where I can find some. thanks

:
What kind of set are you restoring that has 10,000 volt caps? I have hundreds of caps, but I don't believe I have any in that volt range...let me know.

Chip, what are the color bands? Maybe that is why you can't find them...sometimes those colors fade somewhat...

CORRECTION: I had to many zeros, the correct number is .0005/10,000v. and it is used in a tv receiver.also there are no color bands on the old caps thanks

Hi Chip

Those are door knob caps used to filter high voltage for TV CRT's. They came in 500pf @ 10,000 and 20,000 volts.

Although seldom bad you could bring a TV up without one of these caps. If you have a more modern CRT it will have the cap built in between outside and inside of the glass.

Well Chip that clears up some for me as well. Sorry, went through alot of caps, cannot find the size you need. If I had them, I would send for free...Good luck with the TV.

Sir Chip. . . . .

Unfortunately the 2 or 3 of those that I have are not filed and just loose among ~ 1 mil parts, therefore I can't put my hamnds on one at this time.

Assuming that your Tee Wee is using an outer metal shell kine, the evaluation of the sets operation should only be affected by the slight decline of overall high voltage along with a slight crustiness or creeping of outer detail, by the loss of filtering action.

Unfortunately, unless you can find a kind hearted soul with one to donate, seems like the price on those units have been skyrocketed up by the "Tesla Coil Crowd".

Much like encounters with the "Audiophool crowd in building tube amps", the "Geetar Tube Amp Crowd" on tubes and finally juat plain 'ole "Carpetbagger Speculators" on Litz wire.

And . . . . . aaaaah yes . . . . memories . . . . when you do find one, DO get FULL use of it by using it through the full three exploratory stages.

I defer :

Initially you fully charge it up and leave it in full sight for someone to pick up and inspect, until their fingers finally cross the two terminals . . . . SNAP ! . . . . with an accompanying dull, aching to the bone sensation.

(And don't worry about the probable drop to the floor situation . . . as they withstand UNTOLD contacts with even concrete floors.)

Fool me once . . . fool me twice . . ya-da-ya-da- . . . . .

Sooooo the NEXT time you will have to catch them unsuspecting, so charge it up and grip by the center and have them facing away from you and you assert:

"Put this up for me while you are over there", and then it goes whizzing across the way to be caught by you know who . . . . STEEERIKE TWO.

Then the final coup is to merely charge it up and insulate your hand and tightly crimp a paper towel around it and place it right in the middle of their chair . . . . . for the probable last success . . . . for they will then be totally spooked and probably looking out for ANY possibility of Zapppp City.

Will keep an eye open for any of my units.

Now assuredly your candidates . . . if you have ever seen one of them . . is the middle row . . just below the blue unit, or it's "lil brothers are on the bottom row, just to the left of the central red unit.The final one is just below the initially referenced big 'un.

There is even the rare possibility of one being mounted on the chassis and having the kines ultor running to it and you just not being familiar with the "schematic" capacitor in being related to its
entirely different housing configuration, in comparison to common capacitors.. . . . definitely, in no way, does it resemble a " Bumblebee".

Orrrrr . . . just maybe, a person found that chassis earlier and KNEW and appreciated the full fun potentials of having his own "doorknob capacitor".

About the capacitor in the center row, extreme left. Wouldn't the working Voltage of that one be closer to nine Volts?

:
:Unfortunately, unless you can find a kind hearted soul with one to donate, seems like the price on those units have been skyrocketed up by the "Tesla Coil Crowd".
:
:
:Much like encounters with the "Audiophool crowd in building tube amps", the "Geetar Tube Amp Crowd" on tubes and finally juat plain 'ole "Carpetbagger Speculators" on Litz wire.
:
:
:
:And . . . . . aaaaah yes . . . . memories . . . . when you do find one, DO get FULL use of it by using it through the full three exploratory stages.
:
:
:I defer :
:
:
:Initially you fully charge it up and leave it in full sight for someone to pick up and inspect, until their fingers finally cross the two terminals . . . . SNAP ! . . . . with an accompanying dull, aching to the bone sensation.
:
:
:(And don't worry about the probable drop to the floor situation . . . as they withstand UNTOLD contacts with even concrete floors.)
:
:
:Fool me once . . . fool me twice . . ya-da-ya-da- . . . . .
:
:
:Sooooo the NEXT time you will have to catch them unsuspecting, so charge it up and grip by the center and have them facing away from you and you assert:
:
:
:"Put this up for me while you are over there", and then it goes whizzing across the way to be caught by you know who . . . . STEEERIKE TWO.
:
:
:Then the final coup is to merely charge it up and insulate your hand and tightly crimp a paper towel around it and place it right in the middle of their chair . . . . . for the probable last success . . . . for they will then be totally spooked and probably looking out for ANY possibility of Zapppp City.
:
:
:Will keep an eye open for any of my units.
:
:
:
:
:
:
:
:
:
:
:
:Now assuredly your candidates . . . if you have ever seen one of them . . is the middle row . . just below the blue unit, or it's "lil brothers are on the bottom row, just to the left of the central red unit.The final one is just below the initially referenced big 'un.
:
:
:There is even the rare possibility of one being mounted on the chassis and having the kines ultor running to it and you just not being familiar with the "schematic" capacitor in being related to its
:entirely different housing configuration, in comparison to common capacitors.. . . . definitely, in no way, does it resemble a " Bumblebee".
:
:
:Orrrrr . . . just maybe, a person found that chassis earlier and KNEW and appreciated the full fun potentials of having his own "doorknob capacitor".

:::Hi Chip
:::
::: Those are door knob caps used to filter high voltage for TV CRT's. They came in 500pf @ 10,000 and 20,000 volts.
:::
::: Although seldom bad you could bring a TV up without one of these caps. If you have a more modern CRT it will have the cap built in between outside and inside of the glass.

:::
:::::::I am restoring a set the has these bumble bee caps , and so far I cannot find anyone who has replacements. any suggestions where I can find some. thanks
:::::::
::::::What kind of set are you restoring that has 10,000 volt caps? I have hundreds of caps, but I don't believe I have any in that volt range...let me know.
::::::
:::::Chip, what are the color bands? Maybe that is why you can't find them...sometimes those colors fade somewhat...
:
:
:
:
:
:::::
::::CORRECTION: I had to many zeros, the correct number is .0005/10,000v. and it is used in a tv receiver.also there are no color bands on the old caps thanks
::::
:::
:
:::
::Well Chip that clears up some for me as well. Sorry, went through alot of caps, cannot find the size you need. If I had them, I would send for free...Good luck with the TV.
::
:
:
After seeing what they look like, I found a 500MMf, isn't that .0005? at 20,000 volts...is that right? Does the voltage matter on TV sets? I know it is withstanding what the cap can tolerate...Let me know and I will need and address....
