Desperately need info for FADA 205 series
1/17/2011 7:14:52 PMTerry Decker
I received a really nice FADA AA5 with a wood cabinet from a forum friend. The only thing it says on the back is "205 Series".
I've looked here, in Riders and Beitman, and come up empty. Someone sent me a schematic for model 207, but there's no resemblance. It needs a lot of work because some goober has been inside and there are substitutions I KNOW aren't right. I could figure it out but that will take forever.
It's a typical 12SA'- SK'- and SQ' with a 50L6 and 35Z5.
The speaker, which needs to be rebuilt, has a field AND hum coil.
ANY info, especially a schematic, would be GREATLY appreciated.
If anybody can come through, it's this forum.
Thanks-
Terry

I looked over the 207 schematic. I don't know how someone came up with it but matches your tubes. It has a speaker with field and hum bucking coil. What are the differences?

Hi Norm, thanks for the response.
The radio and the schematic are COMPLETELY different.
The tubes are located completely differently, in fact almost the opposite of the 207 layout. The volume control is different, there's no phono switch, there's no extra choke and a lot more, but since I don't have the radio in front of me right now I can't get more specific. I did get into it today looking to start on the repair, and I know that there is VERY little resemblance between what is in the 207 schematic I have, and the radio. If there was, I wouldn't still be searching.
No, except for having the usual AA5 tube compliment, there's no information that I can use.
Thanks for checking it out though, I really appreciate the effort.
Terry

The link below gives a potential list of Rider schematics without model numbers. This is based on Larson's data. Richard

Wow- thanks. I printed out the ones that looked applicable. Even if one of them is very close, that'll help.
I'll check 'em out later today and let ya know.
Thanks again-
Terry

Well, I've got it to come on, (Intermittent connection in the heater string), and it DOES pass a signal, although poorly. I have to point it North by Northwest, hold the dog's tail and have the cat exactly two feet away,(LOL). This poor little radio needs A LOT of TLC.
Some might ask why I need the schematic when all AA5's are basically the same. That's true, in theory. However all radios have unique characteristics, and FADA seems to take that to the extreme. I've narrowed the schematics down to two that MIGHT be applicable. One shows a resistor across a weird cap with a grounded middle plate inside the 2nd IF transformer. I've sure never seen anything like that before. I'll have to pull the can off to check if this is the one. That's a project for another day.
Thanks again Richard-
