I have a Hoffman TV, which my father purchased in the early 1950s. Does anyone know about this company and the TV?

Hi George

Hoffman did make TV's in the 50's. They were called "easy vision" . These TV's had a yellow tinted glass in front of the picture tube which caused poor contrast. The picture was greatly improved without this glass but for protection glass is needed in front of the tube.

I too have wondered about the history of the company and am going to reasearch this further.
My father still has the old 1950 Hoffman tv stored in the garage that I grew up with as a kid. It has the "easy vision" green tinted glass in front of the screen that was supposed to relieve eye strain. It is a 21" mohogany console with twin shutter doors that close to hide the screen. I used to have a RCA 45 record changer hooked up to it when it was in my bedroom as a teenager, as it had a phono input on the back.
I can find out from my grandfather more about it as he has been a General Electric dealer since 1928. Last I plugged the set in about 10 years ago the set did not work anymore as the damper tube plate was glowing cherry red indicating a shorted flyback transformer or filter capacitor. (if that means anything to you).
