5Y3 Replacement

Does anyone know if the Sovtek 5y3 is a suitable replacement for an original 5Y3G in a RCA 17C Radio?

If a tube manufacturer says that it's a 5Y3, then you have to assume it's a 5Y3. Not sure what your question is.

If you're asking if Soviet (or Chinese) rectifiers are as "good" as NOS U.S. tubes, in my opinion No. Will they work? Yes, until the burn out.

I do not see why not John, especially since the Soviets are probably using old RCA equipment to make them ( we sold them allof our RCA tools to make tubes).

Hoever, if there is a concern, there are MILLIONS of 5Y3s around from reputable American manufacturers.

I have read some comments on the Internet to the effect that the Sovtek 5Y3's don't last as long as other brands. You might want to give consideration to what you need it for. In Guitar Amplifiers with high current draw I suppose Brand Quality could be an issue. On the other hand a 5 tube radio with low plate voltages; any old (or new) 5Y3 will probably be fine.
