curtis mathes music center
1/29/1999 2:22:47 AMJeff
This music center consists of a stereo,
tv, and turn-table. I just want to get the
stereo to work. I've replaced many of the
tubes, but no luck. How come my glow tube
(6E5) doesn't even light up? Is this a
power supply problem and not tubes?

The turn table works, I've hooked up a
CD player to the tape inputs and that
works, but that's about it.

Any advice for an amateur.

Hi Jeff

Since your CD player works, connected to the tape inputs, you may not have a power supply problem. The 6E5, tuning eye, usually lose green glow long before other tubes fail. Look closely you may see a faint green when the unit is operating. If you have a meter, check pin #4 on the tube. It should have around 250 volts.

To help with repairs you may want to list, on the forum, what you have tried and what still doesn't work.
