Philco mod 49-906 dial lamp
12/11/2010 1:10:19 PMMitch
Hello all,
Just starting to work on this radio and see that the dial lamp is burned out. Parts list calls out Philco # 34-2605 @ 110 Vac. What would be a cross reference that i could search for?
Thanks
Mitch

I would imagine it would be a 3 Watt night light bulb. Can you describe it a little?

And Richard:
is there any way you could change it so that when the enter key is pressed, as I am accustomed to doing for the line feed when I want to go from "Name" to "E-mail", it doesn't enter your name without anything else? A lot of people seem to be doing this, and I know I do it often. Makes one feel foolish.

The bulb is a screw in type, the thread is 1/2" dia. the bulb is 1 3/4" tall and the glass part is shaped like a small hot air bloon.

Hi; I needed a bulb like what your after a few years ago, I'll try & find info, but I do remember bulb was standard in 1930's type sewing machines. Might want to look around in that area, I think thats how I found it.

As best as i can tell reading the top of the bulb with a high power mag glass it seems to read 110 Vac and 025A. This would be a 3 Watt bulb @ 120 Vac. My concern is the bulbs effect on the filaments of the tubes if i don't get it right.
Thanks

Mitch:
You only need to worry about the filaments in a series wound arrangement. The 110 Volt lamp has no effect on filament current. I buy those occasionally to put in my bench grinder, but due to the vibration they only last a few days. Try a home improvement store, one that sells bench grinders.

You can use the standard 4 watt night light bulb. This is a stand alone dial light. Nothing to do with the tube heater string. The original bulb you describe, was also used in machine panel lights. With a screw in over the top red lens.

Funny, that Heathkiy AG-10 I bought Friday has one in the oscillator section as a cheap thermistor.
