Hello,
I need to change a leaking 10K 1 Watt resistor. Don't have one. I put two 22K 1/2 Watt resistors in parallel which gives me 11K at what wattage?
Is it now a 1 Watt resistor?
Thanks
Mitch

Yes.

Yes the two 1/2 watt resistors in parallel will each share 1/2 the current. So if you calculate power for each you'll see that each of the two will now only need 1/2 watt. So the two 1/2 watters do the job of one 1-watt resistor.
If you calculate voltage drop and current for each separate resistor in any circuit you'll be able to also calculate the wattage for each.
Just use ohms law for each and power for each... P=IxE

WHy is this resistor leaking?

T,
Maybe it's a grid leak resistor lol

I was actually asking a semi-serious question.

Yes Thomas is right... what do you mean by a resistor is "leaking" ?
What is it doing?

Sorry everyone, i am still learning. I am working on a power supply that produces 285 VDC from the 6X5 rectifier to a 10K R, to a 33K and 10 MFD circuit filter. The output voltage would rise to proper voltage and then begin to fall and rise again, i think the cap finally shorted, have not had time to check yet, BUT the 10K R is open now with out of circuit measurement. I think the cap was leaking not the resistor. Replaced the resistor and the output voltage in the circuit is doubble what it should be. I think the cap is now shorted but need time to get to it, cap does not need sleep but i do.
Post tomorrow.
Thank you
Mitch
