Philco 41-608 Restoration Is Just Too Loud

All the caps are new and so are any resisters that where off spec. The tubes check very good on two seperate testers. Everything is per code 122 specs as per Ryders schem. I had to replace the volume control that had a dead spot and couldn't get a 2Meg with 1Meg tap so I used a 2Meg audio. The soond is very good but just a little loud at near full resistance. Beyond that it's overpowering but still good. This is true for radio and phono. Shouldn't there be better control on the volume? I thought it should be about comfortable at about midway in the pot.

The original pot may not have been an audio taper. Also, if the pot doesn't have a
linear taper, then the "Mid point" isn't really the point of half the resistance.
Also, what was the original pot with "1 Meg. tap"?

The original pot was a 2meg with one meg tap. It is my understanding that today's audio taper was achieved in the past by tapping the pot. The pot I removed was a 2meg with a 1meg and a 1.5meg tap. Only the 1meg tap was used as per Philco's spec. I have looked at the tunning and setup guide and I don't see and adjustment for the min or max volume.
