IT-12 Signal Tracer, probe connection to tester?
11/7/2010 6:40:54 PMMitch
Hello all,
I have the IT-12 tester with the probe, it works. From the schematic it looks like the test probe was wired directly into the unit with no physical connector? But, the probe has a mechanical screw on connector with a center contact for the signal and the outter for ground. Can you tell me what the name of this type connector is, and can this be replaced with a BNC connector without any real complications or loss of operation of the tracer?
Thanks
Mitch

Here is a pic of an IT-12 that is currently listed on Ebay. Thew probe cable is. from what I can see here, hard-wired into the chassis.

I'm not sure what "connector" you are referring to, but if you want to replace the hard-wired connection with a BNC panel mount jack and a BNC plug on the probe cable I can see no problem with that. I've replaced panel mount banana jacks with BNC jacks on some of my instruments with no problems.

Dennis,
This is exactly the model. I don't know what the connector that is being used on mine is, but I will plan to change it to a BNC.
Thank you,
Mitch

Sounds like you are are describing a microphone input connector. This was a common type used on some test equipment. Or an upgrade for the time.

This looks like the Female end from the probe cable.

Warren,
Idential female connector, shield to spring and signal to center contact connection. In your experience would you just leave as is or change to BNC? I'am open to whats best.
Thanks to both of you

If it's in good condition leave it as is. It is a simple connector. And is always repairable if need be.
