Belmont Series 40 Signal Question
11/5/2010 1:52:33 AMGeorge T
Hi All, Picked up a Freshman (Belmont series 40) set. It is a 4 tuber. Problem is I get great signal on one station and from my AM transmitter, but all other stations are very weak with a 16 foot antenna wire. Is this normal for a TRF set? Thanks, George T.

:
No, it is not normal. You might have an open coil.

Pull out one RF tube at a time - that might pinpoint the stage with the problem.

Hi George,

Your volume control is 10K, not 10 meg. If it measures 10 meg, there is your problem.
At the time this schematic was written, 'M' meant 1000. Later nomenclature differentiated 'K' for 1000 and 'M' for megaohms. You would not be the first tripped up by this, I was.
You will need to revisit all the resistor values for proper measurements.
This is a simple radio. Your chances of getting it working are excellent.

Best Regards,

Bill Grimm
