Days that just should not happen. Restored the Philco 20 an was on the bench playing perfect. And then nothing. Volume all the way up and i could here a the station come in. Some days can be a challenge.

Have you taken the control apart? Since, according to the schematic, it appears that all of the current for the radio's B circuit flows through the 250 ohm section of this control, it may be possible that the volume control has burned through. Considering the current this control carries, it may be possible to rewind the control or find the break and mend it.

:I took your advice and re-looked at the vc. It was fine but in my rooting around I had found that one of the mica caps on the gang cap was shorted. Cleaned it back up and the radio plays again. Dog Gone Mice, they can pee on everything.
