Stewart Warner 91-111 bad second IF
10/31/2010 7:30:38 AMBud R
Good morning,

This radio is in Riders Vol X, page 10-5 although it is missing in my copy and on my CD. I found a copy on this web site.

Problem, the primary of the second IF transformer is open. I tried repair, no luck. I tried installing a resistor for the open side of the IF and coupling the signal from the 6K7 plate to the 6R7 diode. I used 22K for the resistor and 100 pf for the cap.

This works but the audio quality is poor and the stage is weak. I should mention I only get about 110 vdc at the 6K7 plate with the 22k resistor, schematic calls for 260 vdc. Dropping the resistor to 10k gets the plate voltage up to 200 vdc but doesn't seem to improve performance.

Am I wasting my time trying to use an RC circuit in place of the bad primary? I haven't had any luck finding a replacement IF.

As always, I'll appreciate any suggestions.

Regards,

Bud

Have you looked here for a replacement IF transformer.

Saw the original has a center tapped secondary which is not common for impedance matching. A replacement IF w/o the center tap should be OK. Richard

:Thanks Richard, I saw he has a couple 465 khz IFs.

My concern was the center tapped secondary but if I can get by without it I'll check with POP.
