Hello All,

What holds the tuner shaft (the part the knob screws into) in the chassis. The knob and shaft were out of the radio when I got it.

The tuning shaft is connected to a small gear that, in turn, drives the larger gear that is part of the tuning dial. The inboard end of the shaft is captured by a bearing mounted on the steel panel behind the cabinet's front.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for the reply. In this model, the large gear is riding on a rubber washer slid over the tuning shaft, but what holds the tuning shaft (where the knob connects) to the chassis?

I have the 55C. there is a small axle that the knob and its rubber tire ride on. There is a screw that goes though the middle of the knob to this axle part. This axle part you may be missing can be just seen in this picture.

Mine is all put back togeter, and working excellent too. I never noticed what's holding it on. I will take the knob screw out later tonight, and peek in there. I will let you know in the next post.

Removed the knob an looked in there. The short little axle is held to the chassis by a cross piece of metal with a screw on each side. Appears the axle is press fit into that cross piece. The little axle of course has female threads for the knob screw. This still can be just seen in that picture.

Hi Warren,

Thanks so much for taking the time to check it out. My axle is out of the "mounting bar" Will have to figure out a way to get it back in.
