I was very excited about coming home, and pulling out the Ohmmeter and checking what you guys told me to look at on this RCA17k.. I have two meters.. SO I pull out the first, battery dead.. Put in a new one , and it starts just going up the scale with no stoppage in sight. Then I pull out the other one.. Dead battery, So I put a new battery in it and guess what.. Same story.. Note, both meters doing same thing, and Im not even probing anything.. What can cause this to happen?

What brand and model? Have you looked at the ohms scale? It may be normal for the needle to swing to the right. When the probes are shorted to together that's when you adjust for zero.

Only thing I can think of would be the rotary switch. Take the thing apart and clean the contacts. If that don't help, Oh Well. You need a good one anyway.
