The technicians term might be 'motor-boating' (putt-putt-putt). You would want to diagnose it for this.

:I believe you have a Zenith, and poor chassis grounds and bad capacitors can cause those sounds.

The model number is much like a Zenith but it is a Majestic. I scoped the 6SA7 and only a very small osc signal present. There was 60 volts on the screen so rather low. The 22K resistor feeding it measured 30K. Changed it and now the radio works good.
