Coronado A-12 Series
10/7/2010 9:14:21 PMJeff S.
Hi All,
I'm doing some research on a Coronado console before I start updating the caps, etc. There is no visible model number; all the paper on the inside of the cabinet says is that it's a "Series A-12'. I looked at all of the Coronado schematics and only found one that had the same tube lineup (864). The difference between the 864 and this one is the chassis layout. The 864 has an A12-132 chassis; this one has an A12-116 chassis, and some tubes and the transformer are in different locations.
Anyone have any additional information on Series A-12 Coronado products? I don't want to guess at any of the wiring.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff S.

I'm bumping this one back to the top in hopes of finding some information. After comparing the 846 schematic to the actual underside of the chassis, everything seems to line up. However, the schematic is a bit fuzzy, and there's no parts list. If anyone has a parts list for this particular model and would like to share, please let me know.

A couple of questions:

1. Resistor #R26(maybe 20-something else; it's hard to read) is a monster dog-bone 100 ohm resistor that connects to the speaker transformer. The one in this set is either broken or burned in half (hard to tell). What rating of power resistor (5w, 10w) would be safe to replace it with? I have to believe it's at least a 5W resistor.

2. Sometime in the distant past someone modified the set by soldering the antenna and ground leads to a power cord with an actual two-prong plug at the end. This is the first time I ever saw this done, and I can't believe this was wise or safe. Does anyone know if this was an acceptable modification?

Meant to say 864, not 846.

Jeff,
Try looking under Wells-Gardner. I think they were the actual manufacturer of your set. Coronado was the store brand name for the Gambles-Skogmo department stores.

Thanks for the info; found the A-12 chassis stuff (and parts lists) there.

Question: Turns out the 5W resister that's broken in two is #25 on the parts list, and is 13K ohms. If I can't come up with a suitable replacement (13K doesn't seem to be a common value) would it be OK to put two 25K 5W resistors in series? Or maybe use 10W resistors instead?

Jeff

Jeff,
I think you should put two 25K resistors in parallel to get 12 to 13 K. 5 watt should be ok.

I caught myself on that "series" idea. it's been a long day. Thanks for the advice.
