I found a Thordarson T-30W08A amplifier in my garage but have not located any information about this unit. Anybody know what this is? What year(s) it was manufactured? What tubes it uses? Is it worth restoring?

Hi,
To "audio-piles" it is an amp of note. The finals should be 6L6's, but they "may" be 6CA7's.

If you are looking to build up a conversation piece, it is a good starting point. If you were to buy a second for Stereo, you will pay an inflated price tag for it.

You could do some searches for just amp designs in general, I know "Triode Electronics" has an archive of several amps, as do a number of guitar SIG sites. A late thirtees Thordarson manual is being reproduced (or at least it was) by Linsay Publications, and I think there was mention made in the review notes that there were a few amp designs inside.

If the output transformer is present, a restoration at reasonable price is possible. If it is not present, and you still wanted to build an amp, you could use any of the basic designs that are available at the above referenced sites. Many of my bookmarks are outdated, so if you do a search, you may find the best results on "hotbot", and webcrawler.

I know I misspelled "thirties", but I also misspelled "Lindsay publications"
