:All,
:Can you tell me the difference between these tubes. Each one seems to work in the same radio?

When replacing a glass tube with metal be sure pin #1 is grounded at the socket. If not the metal shield floates, causes hum and/or unwanted oscillation.
If a glass tube is used in place of metal may need to add a shield.

::Hey Mitch-
::I picked up two really good copies of the RCA tube manual on eBay for a couple of bucks. Yeah, you can download stuff, but I like having something I can pick up and hold in my hand.
::Another answer to you're question-
::You can ALWAYS replace the 12SQ7GT, (glass) with the metal. But if you replace the metal with the glass you MIGHT sometimes have problems. Especially if the shielding is needed because of some circuit design. I've never had a problem though.
