:Hello All,
: I got all the capacitors replaced, turned it on, and the dial lamp lights and I do hear something through the speaker, but something was crackling. I tried it without the rectifier tube and the power transformer still crackles. It smells like it's arcing inside.
: What power transformer should I replace it with? The service data is right here in the resources section. But no voltage are mentioned. 300-0-300, 6.3 v and 5v CT. But what currents?
:
:Thanks,

:Look up the rectifier tube to size the 5 volt, it is porbably 2 or 3 amps.
:Look up all the 6 volt tubes, add up the heater currents and add 10 to 15% for a little margin.
:Look up all the tubes, add up all the screen and plate currents given for typical operation. Add 15% or so for margin. If you don't have one, now you see why a lot of us have tube manuals. have fun.

I have tested suspicous transformers by applying 6.3 volts to the appropriate windings, and then testing the other windings. Your results should pinpoint the problem if there is one. The primary should be close to 115 volts, and so on. A serious mis-match on the HV windings, or excessive heat would indicate a problem like an inernal short. At this point, you have little to lose, perhaps you can find arcing at the top of the windings which could possibly be fixed. If the insulation is cracked on the leads, fix it with heat shrink tubing of the appropriate color.
Best of luck.
::You may want to crack open transformer...may be a simple short to outer shell or easy fix...I had same dam problem once...wire leads comming out bottom of trans. were shorting out on metal shell...used heat shrink and dam thing worked fine

:I agree with George, usually any problem with a transformer is right at the beginning. However, if you did a re-cap, and only removed the rectifier to test it, there are still a few places to look. There could be a shorted wire or solder glob at the beginning of the heater string, or the rectifier winding output. I hope you tested the set after every part you substituted. That saves a lot of troubleshooting later.
