I have a 78 ford truck with an AM/FM radio that recently quit working and was wondering if anyone could steer me in the right direction as to the model no. so I could find a wiring diagram to hopefully repair the unit. Or maybe someone can help me get it back up and going. I was looking through some of the models listed for philco but found nothing that I could make any sense of, seems everything listed is a lot older than what I have, just for info I am not an electronics guru by any means but I do know how to use a meter fairly well and would really like to repair the unit myself

First off, make sure it's getting 12 volts to the radio. A bad on off switch? Check the speaker connections, and ohm the speaker for continuity. inside the radio the metal chassis has ground points for the PC board. Look for bad solder connections all over. Sometimes there are spring wire connections from one board to another. Those get dirty and loose contact. Test the audio output with an ohm meter for being open. That's about the most simple to for look for now.

thanks for the reply warren, i removed the radio from my truck and hooked directly to a known good battery, I have 12v at the switch, and 6v at the speaker output, just from searchin on the net I guess the capacitors are a common problem so I started looking at them and the one mounted atop the volume knob is swollen at one end, the numbers on the side of it state 1400 uF 16v, but I have been unable to find one online I looked at mouser and they show a 11 week lead time and have a price of 100.00 so i hope i didn't do something right in my search, the symptoms the radio had when it quit working was when I turned it on the speakers would make a slight pop and the stereo light would flash then go off, if I turned up the radio loud i could here a humm, also if I slid the am/fm slider towards am I could actually pick up an am station slightly but if I went all the way over to AM it would go away, sorry for the long post but thanks for the help, also can you steer me straight on my search the capacitors, also I was going to replace the other ones while I am in there any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to keep the cost under $40, because I can probably get one in the junkysrd for that price and I never knew one small capacitor could cost that much thanks

Being this is low voltage might try an old computer power supply for parts. computer mother boards also have a bunch of low voltage capacitors that may be useful.
