49 Mhz Walkie Talkes seem to be nonexistent
9/2/2010 11:56:54 AMDave Froehlich
Hello All,
I have a GE LF-115 that I just restored. It receives the old FM low band, which includes 49 Mhz. I have searched and searched the internet for Toy Walkie Talkies, which were all 49 Mhz just a short time ago. Now they are unlabeled, as far as frequency, and nobody will tell me which one is 49 Mhz. If anyone knows which walkie talkies are 49 Mhz, that I can buy for a reasonable price, locally,
please let me know.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave:

Did you check with Radio Shack??

I seem to remember that they used to sell 49 MHz walkies. I think it is hard to find the 27 MHz version anymore.

Also, I have seen them at Walgreens in the toy section.

Lou,
I went to Radio Shack and was told that they don't have such a thing. They ONLY have FRS radios and don't have TOY Walkie Talkies any more. I haven't checked Walgreens. Maybe they still have that. At Toys R Us, the person working there said "These walkie talkies don't broadcast in AM or FM". I wonder how they broadcast then? The person didn't know but no frequency was mentioned on the package. I'll take a look at what they have at Walgreens's

Thanks,

Dave

Lou,
According to the Walgreens website, they don't sell such a thing. I think they are gone from stores, just when I need one.

I believe that you may be able to buy 49mhz baby monitors.

Carl,
No place seems to carry those anymore either. Plus they cost $80.00+.

Thanks,

Dave

If this is a tuner for the old FM Low band and you want something to make it useful then

Check out the construction article at:
http://www.vacuumtubeera.net/F ... Device.pdf for a converter which allows a portion of the newer FM band to be received on the older FM-45 tuners.

If you can locate the FCC ID number on the device, you can search
http://www.fcc.gov/oet/ea/fccid/

for technical information about the device.

Hi Dave. What do you need exactly? I have some W/T that transmit and receive on 49mHz band here. Some are regenerative on receive and others are fixed frequency (crystal) superhet on receive. I could sell them for cheap. I also suggest you look at walmart stores. Good luck. Feel free to write me on my personal email for info.
Danny
